THE CHURCHFITTERS IN CONCERT

— A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!

The sold-out concert by The Churchfitters on Saturday 9th November ended to tumultuous applause.  It was an amazing evening of entertainment, during which everything from musical saw to tin whistle was brought out to surprise the audience, and it marked three years to the month since Tansley Village Hall held its first Live & Local concert.

The three touring members of the Anglo-French Churchfitters band wowed the audience with their wealth of instrumental talent and original songs.

DALE DIVA CONCERT A GREAT SUCCESS

The concert by Dale Diva in the Village Hall on Saturday 20th April 2013 proved a great success.

As one audience member commented, "It was uplifting and exhilarating — a wonderful sound delivered with great exuberance."

Jill Green, the Village Hall Committee member who organised the event, says: "We were delighted to have 31 Dale Divas in our Village Hall. What an amazing evening! The sound that the chorus created was superb, almost lifting off the new roof! I think we all enjoyed the audience participation in the first set —this got everyone singing and laughing. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the concert. We even made an excellent profit, which of course will go into our ongoing restoration project."

An Enthralling Performance by Kel Elliott
& Her Band

Report by Chris Knightley

On Saturday night, 22nd October 2011, Tansley Village Hall staged a sell-out Live & Local show by Kel Elliott and her band - Kelvin on guitar, Leo on keys, Tom on drums and Kel herself playing double-bass as well as singing.

They enthralled our audience - seated cosily around candlelit tables - with songs and music from their debut album How Could I Resist and from the CD they are currently recording, along with some brilliant renditions of well-known numbers by artists such as Nina Simone.

The opening song, Valentines Day, written by Kel, set off the evening with a buzz. Feet were tapping from the start and the performance continued with lots of variety and changes of tempo. Kel's soft but strong voice, her amusing anecdotes and the band’s great musicianship kept us captivated throughout the 90-minute show.

From Here to Absurdity

Report by Chris Knightley

Tansley Village Hall staged a sell-out performance of From Here To Absurdity on Saturday night, 2nd April. The show comprised around thirty short satirical sketches, bringing laughter, applause and whistles of approval from the audience while they sipped their real ale, wine or soft drinks collected from the bar before the show and during the interval. The room's cabaret-style layout, with groups of four to six seated around candle-lit, burgundy clothed tables, had a warm and intimate atmosphere.

Performers Richard Kelly, Lucy Simons and Ashley Hearn gave an excellent 90 minutes of their original wit, satire and songs, some of which had a definite (but we hope inoffensive) adult theme, tested at The Edinburgh Fringe and now on tour, mainly in rural venues. During one sketch, 'Nelson' and 'Hardy' discussed many aspects of a modern navy, including it not being homophobic - and then proved it with the famous kiss. We also heard a football style match review of the Battle Of Hastings as well as the ludicrous demands of a son to take custody of his difficult dad from his mum!

The show followed the hall's highly successful concert by Ashley Hutchings, Steve Nicol and Becky Mills last November. Both events brought high-class professional shows to Tansley for local people to enjoy on their doorsteps. Thanks to the popularity of Saturday night's show, deliberately priced affordably at only £6/ticket, the effort put in by the village hall organisers in running the show, raffle and bar produced a good profit to go towards the funds being raised for the new roof planned this summer.

Tansley Primary School performs "Oliver"

Tansley Primary School performed their version of the Dickens' story Oliver Twist this week in the Village Hall.
This was a fitting end to a term spent studying the Victorians, finding out in particular what life was like for the very poor.

TANSLEY HILL RUN 2010 - A RECORD 103 RUNNERS!

Report by Barry Mosley

This event raised £227 for Tansley Village Hall Restoration Fund

Winner Krisian Edwards

The rain had stopped and the ground had begun to dry out as 103 runners, the largest entry so far, set off on the Tansley Hill Race on a pleasantly cool evening. The main race was preceded by the ever-popular family fun run.

The main event was won by last year's runner-up, 15-year-old Kristian Edwards from Tamworth A.C. Kristian is a very talented fell runner who is in line for a future England junior team place. He was closely followed by last year's winner Karl Webster from Matlock A.C. Third was Aidan Winskill from Totley and fourth was Mick Stenton from Dark Peak F.R. who has been a good supporter of the race, having taken part in all but one of the previous years' races.

First lady was once more Christine Howard of Matlock A.C. coming in eleventh overall and breaking her own course record by two seconds. We were pleased to welcome several members of the Fell Runners Association committee including Alan Brentnall, well known in fell running circles, who was first over sixty, and Madeleine Watson first over forty. Also running was U.K.Athletics committee member Ed Warner who was taking part in his first fell race, came in 42nd and enjoyed himself.

Prizes and trophies were presented at the apres-race BBQ at the Gate Inn.
